The Working Girl Aesthetic That's Taking the World by Storm

By | Torri Paveloi

While many of us are pushing through the fall semester and have begun scheduling

classes for the spring, others are approaching graduation quickly. Graduating from college is a huge milestone; for many, post-graduation is when you begin your career and start a full-time job. Even if you don’t have a job lined up after graduation, what you decide to wear for that initial interview or first day is extremely important. Depending on what line of work you are going into your first-day outfit might not be important or even necessary if you are required to wear a uniform, however, if you are faced with the task of picking out your clothes it can be intimidating.

It's the age-old question: What should I wear to work today? I noticed myself asking this question when getting ready for an interview this past summer. Ultimately I decided to take a simple and timeless approach and wore a white button-up with a patterned maxi skirt and platform heels. However, I have noticed that women are dressing like this when running errands, hanging out with friends, and going out. It seems like the “Working Girl,” style is growing more popular even if you don’t have an in-person job. Similar to the old money and clean girl aesthetic that took over the internet last winter and this past summer I believe The “Working Girl,” style isn’t limited to those who are working and if anything has become our new casual.

Some pieces I have noticed women have been wearing are tailored trousers, solid or

patterned button-ups, blazers, and matching suit sets. Celebrities like Hailey Beiber dress like this frequently, changing what the typical 9-to-5 dress looks like. It seems like today women want to look professional while not hiding behind their clothes, and instead make these 9-to-5 look sexy with the personality behind them. Accessories play a huge role in this with many of these looks being paired with sunglasses, belts, scarves, and chunky silver or gold jewelry. I think the watch is also making a huge contribution to these outfits and I couldn’t be happier as it is both practical and stylish.

Since winter will be here before we know it I am happy this “Working Girl,” style is popular as it is very easy to layer for the colder months. I think it’s extremely powerful and important to dress how you want when going to work, and even if you aren’t starting your career anytime soon the “Working Girl,” style is really fun to play around with and a timeless way to dress.
