The Slipper More Classic than Cinderella’s: Amina Muaddi's Iconic Heel

By | Jamiah Apudo

Heels have evolved stylistically throughout the decades. From closed-toe, curved heels in the '30s to kitten heels in the '60s, platforms in the '70s, stiletto heels in the '80s, slingback kitten heels in the '90s, and strappy satin sandals in the early 2000s—each decade has brought a unique twist. With these transformations over time, the question remains: what defines a classic heel?

Amina Muaddi has an answer. Muaddi, who had long been part of the fashion industry, first stepped into footwear design while studying in Italy's Riviera del Brenta shoemaking district. After co-founding her first brand, Oscar Tiye, which didn’t achieve the success she hoped for, she launched her eponymous brand, Amina Muaddi, in 2018. The brand’s luxury footwear is crafted in Italy, combining Muaddi’s expertise with meticulous Italian craftsmanship.

While Amina Muaddi also offers bags and jewelry, her shoes stand in a league of their own. Muaddi’s heels transform the wearer into the main character of a fairytale, with features like crystal embellishments, reflective leather, smooth satin, six-inch platforms, and her signature kick-flare heel, all creating an aura of star power.

Amina Muaddi has crafted a modern classic by blending elements of past designs with fresh innovation, creating a unique world within her brand. Through slingbacks, straps, satin, and platforms, her heels pay homage to the classics while establishing a new iconic silhouette. Since its 2018 debut, Amina Muaddi has achieved both financial success and cultural influence. The brand has collaborated with Rihanna on the Fenty x Amina Muaddi collection and has graced the likes of the Kardashians, Beyoncé, and many other celebrities.
