The Comeback of Coach

By | Kiara Moore

Notoriety in fashion is often depicted by a brand’s climax moment, and most brands have their momentum for a consecutive set of years, and then start to descend. However, one brand has reclaimed its rise to the top almost two decades later.

Spoiler Alert: Coach is BACK, and they are better than ever.

For the past 3 years, Coach has slowly resurfaced in the fashion scene, coming in with classic, trendy, and modern designs that aid every consumer to feel drawn. Their timeless handbag styles have been updated to resemble modern-day trends, while still providing options for minimalistic fashion. On the other hand, similar to the peak in the early 2000s, they have incorporated fun colors with unique prints into their bags, such as the Swinger 20 with Cherry Print. The most popular feature that was included in Coach’s rebrand was the wide selection of silhouettes their accessories came in. If you’re looking for a classic bag with a chic twist, then I’d recommend the Pillow Tabby Shoulder Bag, which comes in two sizes and over ten colors. If you need a business tote, that has a fashionably sleek look, then I’d suggest investing in Rae Tote, which comes in Chalk, Amazon Green, Denim, and 1941 Saddle. Now, for my funky fashion lovers, Coach has also got something whimsical for you: the Upcrafted Ergo Shoulder Bag with Lips Motif. Personally, I admire Coach’s strides to push their own agenda amongst many brands who are attempting to come back but are missing their target audience.

Something that’s also aiding their comeback is the incorporation of sustainability. In 2021, Coach launched their Re(Loved) Program that put emphasis on not only sustainability but on the customer’s incentivized experience. This initiative allowed consumers to trade in their old bags for a chance at store credit. Additionally, Coach’s team will take parts of the old bag, reimagine it, and create it into something one of a kind, from gently used bags. Coach brought a new level to the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle motto, and executed something vintage and usable simultaneously. Now fast forward to the modern day. This year, 2023, Coach Hard launched its sub-brand: Coachtopia. To further their efforts towards including sustainability in their fashion house, Coach has created Coachtopia to still imitate the fabrication of their main brand but be more cautious of what’s used. By using 100% recycled polyester, 70% of bags with recycled resin for hardware, and leather scraps from tanneries, Coachtopia brings youthfulness to Coach while also providing an educational platform for consumers. From totes to shoulder bags to backpacks, Coachtopia is inclined to have a successful run for the next few years.
