Kent State's 2023 Homecoming

By | Gabrielle Kennedy

This past weekend was the event everyone was looking forward to...Homecoming. From current students, alumni, friends, and family everyone was participating in all aspects of Homecoming. Whether you went to the tailgate at Dix Stadium or the one on campus you were sure to have fun. Homecoming day was kicked off with the Homecoming Parade led by the band along with several clubs and organizations at Kent. The parade was around Main Street leading towards downtown. Those who didn’t attend the parade were at the tailgate taking place. People were out early ready to celebrate our Homecoming and upcoming football game.

At Dix Stadium, the crowd was a mix of Greek life, students, and their families

celebrating Homecoming in the parking lot in anticipation of the start of the game. The cold windy weather didn't stop any of us from having a great time, tailgating and hanging with our friends. From the music to the vibes to the food, the whole experience at the stadium was a 1o out of 10.

After the tailgate ended, the football game and all the Homecoming festivities

began at 3:30 at the stadium. This Homecoming our team played against The University of Buffalo. The stadium was full of students, families, and alumni wearing their best blue and gold. Kent State kicked off the game with a 6-0 lead in the first quarter but unfortunately, as the game went on Buffalo took the lead and they won the game with a score of 6-24. Although this wasn’t the outcome of the game we wanted it was still a great time cheering on our school. Overall, Homecoming was a blast from beginning to end despite losing the game. Everyone showed up and showed out in celebration of our school and team!
