Diesel's Fall/Winter 2023 collection was brimming with allure. Glenn Martens, who returned to Milan Fashion Week to exhibit his latest offering, first hinted at what was to follow with his seasonal show invitations, which were delivered as Durex condom packets stamped with Diesel's signature.
Glenn Martens is a master of the stage, and this season is no exception. Diesel used sexual protection as inspiration for FW23, delivering a gorgeous showcase centered on its classic denim designs reinterpreted with shredded semi-sheer panels suggestive of the barrier contraception method. The collection debuted on a red-carpeted runway, complete with a mountain of 200,000 Diesel-branded rubbers cascading to the ground. The first outfit was classic Diesel, including a distressed leather jacket with fading lettering paired with worn-in denim that doubled as boots. Chipped marks and thin foils were used to make damaged tops that served as a window to the human figure. Digitally printed jeans made an appearance with similar decor, hopping onto T-shirt dresses, skirts, and other items. Minced denim was frayed to perfection, and baggy bottoms were emblazoned with "FOR SUCSEXFUL LIVING" writing urging healthy relationships. On models in motion, woven clothing was falling apart, functioning alongside shiny puffers with biological membrane patterns. Elsewhere, short dresses were sprayed with peeling paint and a '90s breeze, while others exposed vivid doodles beneath. Leather clothing was soaked in copper pigment and beaten with metallic, orange, and green tones, seamlessly aged into contemporary. Furthermore, billowing waxed coats came to life on the runway like monsters, with slimy details that merged with terrifying energy. Finally, antiquated Diesel logos adorned other clothing with squinting eyes and smirking lips that appeared to be lifted from vintage ads.
