February 2024

The Element Magazine is celebrating Black History Month by highlighting Kent State University's impact on Black excellence. Black History Month, initially celebrated in the second week of February, was expanded in 1969 and celebrated for the first time in 1970 by Black United Students. Today, it is recognized globally, honoring the traditions, societies, and culture it has brought.

This year, The Element Magazine introduces the Class of 2023-2024 "Enfluencers"—students who have made significant contributions as leaders at Kent State. These students have influenced the Black Experience on campus and have shown remarkable progress in their careers. The Enfluencers are Shane Reese, Nora Sone, De’Anna Baccus, Anaya Spencer, Julian Grimes, A’Kyra Holley, Deandra Wright, Yasir Pope, Kiara Moore, and Brian Johnson.

Happy Black History Month from The Element!
