Beauty In Black Hair

As The Element starts to close out Black History Month, we wanted to share with you one of the most vital aspects of Black culture and that is the connection/art that we have created through hair. Through our hair, we not only express ourselves, but we get the opportunity to express the journeys that each of us has to go through to understand our different hair forms and the connection that we build with our hair.

In many spaces, our hair and our hair practices are not understood, nor accepted by the masses such as the way we get treated about our hair in the workplace, the laws that have had to be put in place for us to protect that aspect of our culture, and the ridicule that we face within our community about our hair being “kept”. Here, we wanted to change the narrative and show you the Beauty in Black hair in the space that we all know too well: The Beauty Supply! The Beauty Supply is a phenomenon that is a pinnacle and a haven for POC and we wanted to make sure that everyone feels that haven during Black History Month.
